Oats upma RECIPE
OATS UPMA
INGREDIENTS
- Oats – 1 cup [ quick cooking oats ]
- Finely chopped onion – 1 small
- Mixed veges finely chopped – ½ cup [ boiled green peas ,carrot ]
- Finely chopped green chilli – 1 or as per taste
- Water – ¾ cup [ extra 2 tbsp if required ]
- Oil + ghee – ½ tbsp or 1 tbsp
- Mustard seeds + urad dal – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – few
- Grated ginger – ¼ tsp
- Finely chopped coriander leaves and freshly grated coconut for garnish
- Salt to taste
- Sugar – ¼ tsp [ optional ]
METHOD
Heat oil + ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds + urad dal and let it crackle.
Add onions + chilli + ginger + curry leaves and fry till translucent.
Add veges + salt + ¼ tsp sugar and stir fry till cooked for 2 mins .[ crunchy texture ,don’t over cook ]
Add the oats and mix well.
Stir fry for 1 minute till the oats get fried .[ colour should not change ]
Sprinkle ¾ cup of water little by little and mix well .
***Don’t add water in one shot or it it will become sticky .
Cover and cook for 2 mins [ stir in-between ]
If you feel it is not cooked , you can sprinkle 1 or 2 tbsp of more water.
Once done off the flame . [ oats should become soft ]
Garnish with coconut and coriander leaves .
Serve hot with coconut chutney or plain .

NOTES
- You can also take a mixture of rava and oats.
- You can also add a pinch of turmeric pwdr to add colour.
- Y not add cashews.
- You can also roast the oats before .
- Use hot water to speed up cooking.
- Coconut is optional.
- Y not drizzle few drops of lemon juice while serving.
